Message from The Reverend Roderick Leece ( RdeG Hon Chaplain)
Dear friends,
Please find the attached invitation as we celebrate the tercentenary of the consecration of St George’s Hanover Square on Sunday 23rd March 2025.
Carved out of the ancient parish of St Martin in the Fields, the historic boundaries of our parish originally included all of modern-day Belgravia, Knightsbridge, Pimlico and Mayfair. The vestry of St George’s was responsible not only for the church affairs but also for the civil government of this part of Westminster. Today along with the Grosvenor Chapel we serve modern-day Mayfair.
One of our earliest parishioners was GF Handel and St George’s rich musical tradition will be reflected in the forthcoming celebrations. On Sunday morning, the musical forces will be enhanced by a small orchestra. On Sunday evening there is a rare chance to hear Tallis’ forty-part motet Spem in Alium which will be followed by a reception in the recently completed Undercroft restaurant.
With prayers for many blessings,
Fr Roderick Leece
Rector
