Monthly Supper, Mosimann’s

June 13, 2011

A Total of 70 members and guests “squeezed” into the Belfry Gallery for the reception of generous canapés served with a summery Prosecco Corte Alta. It was delightful to see so many familiar faces, including the delightful Gwyneth Lumsden, the urbane Roz Zanre, as well as retired member Michael Roberts– for many years at Brooke’s Club and Kings College Cambridge and who had travelled up from Bournemouth specially for the occasion.

In the absence of Anton (on a lengthy European car rally), Marc Mosimann introduced the various dishes to be served explaining their racine as well as the reason for their inclusion. The President had requested a menu which reflected Anton’s culinary journey from Switzerland to Japan, Canada and London (the Dorchester and finally Mosimann’s)

Marc regaled the story of his acute embarrassment, as a young border at school, witnessing with fellow pupils, his father’s TV appearances promoting Jersey Royal Potatoes (not to worry – it probably paid for the school fees!) Many members commented on the excellent food and wine paring –particularly a Chenin Blanc from the Loire accompanying the refreshing Sashimi starter, as well as the ubiquitous Risotto al Funghi( with classic Pinot Grigio); this dish has featured on the menu for over 20 years and Mosimann members insist that it stays that way.
Two puddings – Anton’s Bread and Butter pudding made with Brioche ( a much larger portion would have been appreciated ) and the marinated berries with the Rumtopf Ice Cream (slightly warm) allowed members the opportunity to compare a new world pudding wine form Chile with a classic Montbazillac from France. The outstanding Montbazillac 2003, kindly donated by the President’s personal guest, Francis Murray, of O.E Loeb, won hands down for the old world.

The Kitchen Brigade, led by Head Chef Jerome Henry, all immaculately turned out “avec tôque” received the traditional Santé de Chef; whilst it was agreed by all present that the service throughout the evening had been exemplary. It was pleasing to see a” full house” at such a prestigious venue!

Our grateful thanks to the Mosimann family for their excellent hospitality
